Physically, both Obama and Lincoln are tall, fit and muscular. Both were born of humble origins and eventually moved to Illinois where they entered politics. Both men are gifted communicators and eloquent orators who have an innate ability to connect with the heart of the listener. Both Lincoln and Obama are attorneys who championed the cause of the forgotten, oppressed, and underprivileged. Both men have gentle dispositions and an easy ability to forgive yet are able to comfortably take firm command of any situation; by actions and words they serve as unifiers not dividers. Lincoln and Obama are both cautious thinkers who consider every issue carefully, examining all options before making informed decisions. Both entered the office of president during times of national crises burdened with overwhelming challenges. Lincoln and Obama both made cabinet choices of former rivals and avoid sycophants and yes-men, openly encouraging opposing opinion. Lincoln and Obama were not in the military, yet both have great respect for our military leaders and genuine compassion for soldiers.
